Welcome to Mexico’s Riviera Maya

There is nothing quite like the warm sand and soft waves of the Riviera Maya. The warm air beaming down on you, the lapping water slowly lulling you to sleep on your beach towel, cold drink and book nearby for when you feel a bit less lazy. To relax and unwind; that is what vacation here is all about.

But some of us march to the beat of a different drum. We don’t just wait for adventure to fall into our laps like an errant beach volleyball, we actively seek it out. When it comes to accommodations, you know GoBumpFree has you covered up and down the Riviera Maya. We can make sure you save big on amazing resorts and hotels, but seizing the day is on you.

All we can do is point you in the right direction. So here we go!

Exploring the Arts on Mexico’s stunning coast

Thirteen kilometres (about 8 miles) off the coast of Cancun is Isla Mujeres. If you’re interested in getting off the mainland, Isla Mujeres offers a lot for visitors to enjoy and explore, and naturally, we have wonderful accommodations for members to take advantage of. Hopping just off the coast however awaits even more for those who love experiential art: Joyxee Island.

Joyxee is an eight-thousand-square-foot island that serves as the residence of, and a work by, British artist Richart Sowa. The base of the island is made of nets containing over 100,000 plastic bottles, and Sowa’s goal is for the island to be self-sufficient, a commentary on reuse and recycling — even the washing machine in his home is powered by waves.

Off the coast of Cancun proper is the Museo Subacuatico de Arte, composed of hundreds of statues sitting at the bottom of the ocean. This massive art installation is intended to double as an artificial coral reef, but there remains something haunting about diving amidst a bunch of man-made works — a grim reminder that exactly this could happen if we don’t protect the environment. (Spookiness aside, this is must-see!)

While the Riviera Maya has a wonderful coastline and a climate that can bring a smile to the face of even the most hardened traveler, it also serves as a reminder that the most interesting things, the most memorable experiences lie just beyond the unknown — in this case, those relaxing coastal waves.

Of course, the best way to experience the Riviera Maya is by booking your accommodations through GoBumpFree, so you can save on room nights and put your hard-earned travel budget to the memory making moments. Go enjoy the sun and sand; when you get back, we want to hear all about it!
