Welcome to Maui

Maui is a nature lover’s paradise! No trip would be complete without taking a dip in the gorgeous waters. Relaxing on the beach and soaking in the sun is one option, but there are some non-traditional aquatic adventures as well. Explore underwater lava arches while swimming with green sea turtles. Want a new type of swimming challenge? Why not try on a tail and learn how to swim like a mermaid? If you’re looking for the something more thrill-seeking, check out an opportunity to dive with sharks at the Maui Ocean Centre.

Haleakala National Park has an awe-inspiring view from the summit of the volcano at over 10,000 feet. If you are a morning person, the sunrise hikes are highly recommended. For the night owls, you can take in the sunset and stargazing from above the clouds.

The long and winding road…

One of the most popular activities on the island is to simply drive along the coastline to enjoy the stunning views. Hana on the east coast is a well-known destination and it is only 55 miles from the island’s main airport in Kahului. It is technically a short drive, but there plenty of great stops to make along the way - including waterfalls, arboretums, markets and coffee houses.

Spirits of Hawaii

Sugar cane used to be a lot more prominent in Hawaii, but with many of the mills now closed, it is now being used to make organic vodka. Another distillery uses pineapples to make vodka, though the final product doesn’t have the tropical fruit flavor. If you are looking for the local flavors in your drinks, you can check out Maui Brewing Company, whose brews include a Pineapple Mana Wheat ale and a Coconut Hiwa Porter.

Volunteering on Vacation

If you miss your canine companions when on vacation, the Maui Humane Society has the perfect program for you! With the Beach Buddies initiative, you can hang out with one of the shelter dogs for the day - giving them some time to run and play in the waves. If you fall in love with your new furry friend, you can apply to adopt them too!
